Franciscan Health’s Prenatal Assistance Program Receives Nearly 250000 Diapers For Diaper Pantries In Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY, Indiana - Franciscan Health’s Prenatal Assistance Program recently received a donation of 247,968 Huggies diapers from the National Diaper Bank Network.

The National Diaper Bank Network works in partnership with its network of diaper banks – including those at Franciscan Health -- allied programs, donors, sponsors and elected officials to end diaper need and period poverty in the United States.

"This incredible gift from the National Diaper Bank Network and Huggies helps us extend our reach and ensure that more children in Northwest Indiana have the essentials they need to thrive," said Tristan Kirby, Franciscan Alliance community health prenatal care program director. "We are deeply grateful for their generosity, which strengthens our ministry and brings hope to families facing diaper insecurity."

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, nearly half of all families struggle to afford diapers, which can cost nearly $1,000 a year. As many as 25% of families with diaper insecurity report missing school or work because they do not have the diapers needed to send their children to childcare. 

Babies who do not have adequate diaper supplies are more vulnerable to painful rashes and urinary tract infections and have more trips to the doctor, the National Diaper Network said.

Franciscan's Diaper Pantry program allows eligible families to obtain free diapers, wipes and more. Those interested in the program can call 1-877-PRE-NATL (1-877-773-6285) to check eligibility, register for the program and schedule an appointment.
