Community Health

Our Team

The Franciscan Health Community Health team is a small core team led by Administrative Director Kate Hill-Johnson. This team works to ensure that Franciscan Health plays an active role in serving our communities. They engage staff and community partners throughout our service areas to further health-centered programs and initiatives. This team also manages data and reports about who we are serving and how much money and time are given back

Focus & Initiatives

Focus: ACEs

The core focus for community health is centered around Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The goal is to spread awareness about ACEs and help combat the health effects influenced by ACEs.

  • Provide education and awareness about childhood trauma and community resiliency.
  • Develop coalitions and task groups to facilitate community partnerships.
  • Offer a variety of opportunities for people to engage in healing strategies.
  • Lead by doing. Continue to look for opportunities to serve the most vulnerable.

Initiatives

Some of our initiatives that support ACEs include:

  • Nationally sponsoring Broadstreet to make ACEs data and dashboards available to the public
  • Providing clinical and professional training on ACEs internally and in our communities (staff, doctors, case managers, nurses, therapists, and more)
  • Coordinating and hosting two-day seminars with Dr. Anda, who was an investigator in the Adverse Childhood Experiences study that brought to light this topic
  • Founding the ACEs Indiana Coalition (state and community coalition teams)
  • Sponsoring "Be The One" initiative throughout the state of Indiana
  • Partnering with local coalitions in Illinois
  • Working with community programs to be help them remain sustainable and drive change

Corporate Benefit Reports

The Benefit Report includes data breakdowns on things like numbers served and financial data, as well as where that money went (such as community health services, Medicaid and patient financial assistance). Want more details on how Franciscan Health is serving in our communities? Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) are broken down by location and available for each of our service areas. These are put together in a way that is a little easier to read and they provide interesting insight into each community.

The Social Impact Partnership Program (SIPP)

Franciscan Health strives to create mutually beneficial partnerships which are centered on improving significant health issues in our most vulnerable communities.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Initiative

ACEs are certain traumatic or stressful events that occur in childhood and have been linked to an increased risk for negative health and social outcomes. As a leader in the ACEs charge, we are working to increase awareness and action.
