Franciscan Alliance Receives KLAS Pinnacle Award

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Franciscan Alliance recently received the Pinnacle Award from the KLAS Arch Collaborative, which recognizes health systems for high-level effectiveness and user experience with their electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Franciscan Alliance ranked near the top for both physician and nurse experience among 115 health systems surveyed that use the Epic electronic health records system.
The Arch Collaborative at KLAS Research is a group of healthcare organizations committed to improving EHR experience for clinicians. Through standardized surveys and benchmarking, healthcare organizations collaborate to uncover best practices for reducing burnout, increasing efficiency and accuracy and improving patient care. KLAS is a research and insights firm on a global mission to improve healthcare delivery by amplifying the provider’s voice.
“Franciscan has been conducting surveys on inpatient and outpatient electronic health record satisfaction annually with KLAS since 2018 and we have been able to turn those insights into action,” said Tina Patterson, administrative director of clinical informatics and information services education at Franciscan Alliance. “The receipt of the Pinnacle Award for both physician and nursing satisfaction is a culmination of the work that our analysts and informatics teams have undertaken in response to those surveys.
“The KLAS survey guides our optimization and efficiency efforts throughout the year. There is nothing more valuable than the feedback we receive from our staff, letting us know what is working for them and what is not. The Pinnacle Award is a well-deserved recognition of the excellence that the Franciscan Alliance Information Services team brings to our clinicians every single day.”
Research studies on EHR use show poor technology workflows are linked to employee burnout and can impact performance and retention. Franciscan Health has implemented numerous practices such as conducting customized 1-on-1 sessions with providers, creating short informational content for physicians in lieu of long training modules and generating fun and engaging content such as videos or interactive tools to reinforce training.
Franciscan Health previously completed internal surveys with providers about their EHR use but joined the Arch Collaborative in 2018 to gauge how the system matched up against other healthcare systems, which showed continual improvement overtime.
“The organizations recognized with our KLAS Pinnacle Award have reached a level of physician or nurse effectiveness with the EHR that few organizations have achieved,” said Adam Gale, CEO and co-founder of KLAS Research. “They have both learned from and contributed to Collaborative-verified approaches to improving EHR experience.
