Franciscan Health's Program Guides Patients Beyond The Chaos Of Cancer
3/4/2021

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Treating cancer can be a rocky ride of radiation treatments, chemotherapy and surgeries. And returning to a normal life after the battle presents other challenges, too.
That's why Franciscan Health Cancer Center in Indianapolis is again offering its Moving Beyond survivorship program. It is an 8-week online series which blends a unique and holistic approach, combining physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health components for survivors, loved ones and caregivers. These sessions will continue in-person once permitted.
"This program focuses on a patient’s journey through cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship," said breast surgeon Erika Rager, MD, MPH, who co-founded Moving Beyond at Franciscan Health in 2015. "Once a cancer patient completes their medical care, life just doesn't get back to normal - there is physical, emotional, financial and spiritual work to be done for the best recovery."
The classes meet Tuesdays from 5:30PM - 7:30PM or Thursdays from 1:30PM - 3:30PM. The courses are led by Franciscan Health and Cancer Support Community Central Indiana experts, who will cover various topics:
- Understanding Your Survivorship
- Moving Beyond with Good Nutrition
- Emotional Well-Being
- Symptoms & Side Effects Management
- Spiritual Well-Being
- Self-Care
- Well-Being & Relationships
- Your Medical Team & You
Participants will have the opportunity to exercise with an instructor, learn tips for stress reduction, healthy eating, develop healthy habits and build self-confidence.
