'They Made My Experience Great' At Franciscan Health Mooresville

When Kara Peeden planned for her baby's delivery, the Martinsville, Indiana, mother didn't have to look far from home.

“I chose Franciscan Health because I grew up in the system,” said Kara, who delivered her baby at Franciscan Health Mooresville. "I've just always been comfortable here and I never wanted to switch after I had to get my own insurance. I was just really comfortable here."

Kara’s Journey To Motherhood 

For Kara, her pregnancy journey with Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Mooresville was filled with support and reassurance at every step.

“My pregnancy and the care at Franciscan during my pregnancy was great,” Kara said. “My doctor was really excited with me. She knew we’d been trying to have a baby for a little while, so she was with me the whole time. She never hesitated to answer questions anytime of the day. It was just really easy. She made it a breeze.”

'My Family Could Just Focus On Real Time In The Moment'

That same sense of comfort carried over when it came time for delivery.

“The day I came in in labor, I wasn’t sure if I was in labor or not, but they came in. They reassured me that everything was going to be okay,” Kara said. “I in fact, was in labor. My water had broken. It was really late at night, so we got started around midnight.”

Kara felt reassured by the professionalism and compassion of the staff.

“Everybody was very professional. They'd speak to me like a human. They just made me feel really comfortable and very professional,” she said.

Her delivery moved quickly.

Surrounded by her husband and mom, Kara was grateful for the nurses who stepped in to make the moment even more memorable. “I did have my mom and my husband with me, so I had some nurses in there with me who volunteered to take some pictures so my family could just focus on real time in the moment.”

She also felt reassured knowing that both she and her baby were in safe hands if any complications arose. “They explained everything to me before I started pushing that if anything was to go south, that they had a level two nursery here that they could care for my baby and myself as well.”

One of the things that stood out most during Kara’s birthing experience was the comfort of Franciscan Health Mooresville’s LDRP model, labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum all in the same room.

“I know most places aren’t that way,” said Kara. “I just thought it was really comforting not having to move rooms several times during my stay, and I was in one room from start to finish, so I was comfortable the whole time.”

Kara says she would recommend Franciscan Health to family and my friends.

“Like I said, they just made it really easy and made us comfortable,” she said. ”They were very professional and patient-centered.”

Even at discharge, the staff went above and beyond. 

“My discharge experience was great. My nurse stayed with me the whole time. She was actually supposed to be getting off work,” Kara recalled. “I was discharged right around shift change, but she stayed about an hour and a half later than she needed to just so she was with me the whole time during discharge, and she walked us all the way out to our car and she checked our car seat, made sure everything was okay, and she helped us load everything up and it was just really nice that she didn’t have to do that.”

A Growing Family’s Journey At Franciscan Health Mooresville

Kara shared how meaningful it was to welcome her daughter at Franciscan Health Mooresville.

“My baby just turned one in February, so she’s right at 15 months old. She’s doing great,” Kara said. “She’s walking, she’s running, she’s figuring out how to talk. She loves to eat and she just loves to run all over the place.”

Looking back Kara says the entire journey from pregnancy through delivery was smooth and memorable. “Everybody was really great. It was an easy pregnancy, easy delivery and the team here really made it that much better.”

The care she received set the tone for her growing family.

“My new family of three enjoyed our stay at Franciscan Health Mooresville, and we plan to visit again in the future when we have more children,” she said. “We are excited to live our extraordinary life together.”
