Overview
Hospital Volunteers
Hospital volunteers usually work once or twice a week for three to four hours at a time. Volunteers are needed seven days a week during the morning, afternoon and evening hours. Your gift of time truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients and community. Hospital volunteering opportunities may include:
- Service (such as mail delivery, helping at the information or welcome desk, helping patients navigate, and more)
- Auxiliary (fundraising efforts that help department programs and patients)
- Clerical Support
- Spiritual Care
Hospice Volunteers
Hospice volunteers provide comfort & support for patients for whom curative measures are no longer an option. Franciscan Hospice provides one-on-one care to patients in their home, a hospital or extended care facility. The goal of hospice is to provide comfort through medical and spiritual means for patients who are preparing for end-of-life.
Hospice volunteering opportunities may include:
- Provide companionship or caregiver relief: Be present. Talk to patients/veterans about their lives and listen to their stories, play an instrument, share favorite songs, etc. Provide temporary relief to caregivers/family to prevent caregiver fatigue.
- Office Assistance: Provide light office work, assist with special projects or clerical work
- Provide bereavement support
