Our Approach
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by the experience of a disturbing event, typically one that is life-threatening. Nightmares and flashbacks of the occurrence lead to profound anxiety and may have serious consequences including, but not limited to, feelings of despair, loss of interest in life, aggression, hallucinations, paranoia, guilt and thoughts of suicide.
A PTSD diagnosis involves extensive psychological evaluation. Your doctor may ask about your past, mental health history, family history and symptoms. A variety of treatments are available for those suffering from PTSD including but not limited to medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
