Our Approach
Your provider may diagnose skin cancer through a physical exam and test. Because early detection and removal of cancerous growths greatly increases your chances of a positive outcome, continued skin cancer screenings and prevention efforts are vital to a full and healthy recovery.
If skin cancer is detected, it is often treated by surgically removing the lesion as well as a portion of the normal surrounding skin (Mohs surgery). Patients may opt for reconstructive procedures following surgery.
What is skin cancer?
Skin cancer is an abnormal growth of skin cells typically caused by sun exposure. It is the most common type of cancer in the United States and can often be cured when treated in its earliest stages.
The three major types of skin cancer are basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer and is the most likely to spread to other tissues in the body.
