Our Approach
Franciscan Health's podiatric team offers a comprehensive spectrum of bone, ligament, tendon repair, surgery and treatment options. If podiatric surgery is necessary, we offer non-invasive, minimally invasive and surgical procedures in order to speed the healing process.
Our skilled podiatric physicians also treat sports-related injuries and coordinate individual treatment plans with physical therapists. Orthotic services are also available.
Podiatric medicine helps with a wide range of issues including foot or ankle pain due to an injury, biomechanical factors such as high arches or flat fleet or issues related to a disease such as diabetes. Podiatrists can evaluate and treat disorders while also recommending preventative care for future health.
How to prevent foot pain
The American Podiatric Medical Association offers the following tips for preventing foot pain:
- Don't ignore foot pain - it's not normal. If the pain persists, see a doctor who specializes in podiatry.
- Inspect and wash feet regularly, especially between the toes, and dry them completely.
- Trim toenails straight across, but not too short. (Cutting nails in corners or on the side increases the risk for ingrown toenails.)
- Select and wear the right shoe for specific activities. Make sure shoes fit properly. Don't wear the same pair of shoes every day.
- Be cautious when using home remedies for foot ailments. Self-treatment can often turn a minor problem into a major one.
- People with diabetes, poor circulation or heart problems should not treat their own feet, including toenails, because they are more prone to infection.
