About This Procedure
A hernia happens when an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weak spot in surrounding muscle or connective tissue. While there are several types of hernias, inguinal hernias are the most commonInguinal hernias occur in the inner groin area. They typically don't go away on their own and may lead to life-threatening complications if they grow. But hernia surgery can permanently repair an inguinal hernia.
Minimally invasive ventral hernia surgery
A ventral hernia frequently arises in or near a surgical scar related to a previous abdominal operation. At Franciscan Health, our surgeons perform most ventral hernia repairs laparoscopically.
This hernia surgery involves removing internal scar tissue (adhesions) and placing a patch to reinforce the weak area. Our surgeons perform these repairs through small incisions. Patients experience:
- Shorter hospital stays (usually one or two days)
- Less pain
- Faster recoveries
