About This Procedure

Sacrocolpopexy is a surgical procedure used to repair pelvic floor prolapse. Pelvic floor prolapse occurs when the uterus or bladder slips from the pelvic cavity into the vagina. It is often due to pelvic muscle weakness that develops after childbirth or following a prior surgery such as a hysterectomy.

Sacrocolpopexy uses a mesh to correctly reposition (or lift) the vagina to the sacrum, a shield-shaped bony structure that is located at the base of the spine and is connected to the pelvis.
