Our Approach
Otolaryngology – commonly referred to as ENT – focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders related to the ear, nose and throat (ENT).
Common ENT issues in adults
When adults seek help from an ENT, generally it is for one of the following conditions:
- Sinus infections - Common in adults and teens, sinus infections can range from mildly annoying to chronic and debilitating. Chronic sinus infections may require surgery.
- Age-related hearing loss -As a person ages, hearing loss can occur for a variety of reasons. ENT specialists, collaborating with our audiologists, work to pinpoint the amount of hearing loss and prescribe hearing aids and other assistive devices.
- Head and neck cancers - An ear, nose and throat doctor can diagnose potentially fatal cancers of the head and neck. ENT specialists also treat problems such as snoring and difficulty swallowing.
ENT conditions in children
When children see an ENT, it is often for a chronic condition such as earaches or tonsillitis. Treatments vary and, in some cases, surgery becomes necessary to correct more serious pediatric ENT conditions. Our team of physicians includes specialists in pediatric ear, nose and throat conditions, ensuring each child gets the best care possible.
When surgery is necessary, Franciscan Health provides families with the information they need to feel comfortable. Our specialists make sure parents are involved in and kept informed throughout the procedure in order to ease anxiety.
