Our Approach
Our surgeons have access to a variety of robotic-assisted surgery systems to provide minimally invasive and effective options for patients. Your doctor will discuss your care options and if robotic-assisted surgery is right for you.
Benefits of robotic-assisted surgery
Robotic surgery has many potential benefits when compared to traditional surgery. Benefits of robotic-assisted surgery can include:
- Reduced blood loss
- Less risk of infection
- Reduced length of stay for post-procedure care
- Reduced surgical site
- Less scarring
Robotic-assisted options may be available for these surgeries:
- Colon and Rectal Surgery
- Endometriosis surgery
- Gallbladder surgery
- Gastric Bypass
- Hernia Repair
- Hip Replacement
- Hysterecotomy
- Knee Replacement
- Myomectomy
- Oophorectomy
- Ovarian Cystectomy
- Prostatectomy
- Pyeloplasty
- Sacrocolpopexy
- Septal Myectomy Surgery
- Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS)
- Thoracic Surgery
Robotic Surgery for Total Joint Replacement
No two joints are the same. That's why robotic surgery can help personalize a surgical plan, especially when it comes to joint replacement surgery. With robotics, surgeons are able to cut less, which can mean less soft tissue damage and greater bone preservation for some patients. This technology allows surgeons to create a personalized plan based on each patient's unique anatomy before entering the operating room. During surgery, the physician can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute the plan.
Franciscan Health Center for Hip & Knee Surgery Mooresville, Franciscan Health Orthopedic Hospital Carmel and Franciscan Health Lafayette East offer the Mako SmartRobotics surgical system for total hip and knee replacements.
The da Vinci® Surgical System
The da Vinci® Surgical System enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate minimally invasive procedures for men and women, getting them back to their lives in less time. The da Vinci® robot enables our surgeons to operate at a 3-D console away from the surgical field. The procedure allows for excellent 3-D surgical viewing, improving the ability of the surgeon. Robotic-assisted surgery is an effective and far less invasive alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. With the assistance of the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons can now operate using only 1-2 centimeter incisions and utilize greater precision and control than ever before. da Vinci® can help surgeons minimize the pain and risk associated with surgery while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical outcomes.
It is important to know that da Vinci® Surgery does not place a robot at the controls; your surgeon is always in control of every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci® robotic surgical system.
Find Lung Cancer in the Earliest Stages with Robotic Bronchoscopy
Franciscan Health offers advanced diagnostic technology with robotic bronchoscopy. If a high-risk nodule is found on your lung scan, we have the capabilities to detect and diagnose lung cancer in the earliest stage possible in the hardest to reach areas of the lung using the robotic bronchoscope. This means our patients have more treatment options and better outcomes when lung cancer is found earlier. Franciscan Health was the first to use this technology in Indiana and is still only offered at only a few hospitals.
